New Life For The Cedars Of Lebanon
The government of Lebanon has mounted an attack to stop the decline of forests of the exquisite Cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani). Laws were passed in 1996, prohibiting the cutting, removal or damage to cedars. Two entire forests of cedars have been established as National Heritage Sites and nature reserves. Thousands of young cedars planted in the 1960's are now part of a large-scale re-afforestation programme.
