Citrus Mites
Above: Common mite damage to leaves and fruit of Citrus.

Citrus Mite

Description
Citrus mites of which there are several species damage fruit leaves, twigs and buds of citrus fruit trees. Usual damage appears as a hazing over the the leaves and fruit The pest itself is minute and hard to see with the naked eye. Damage can also come in the form of mutated or deformed fruit when the mites feed on buds or immature fruits, generally causing them to drop.

Can we live with them?
We effectively always do, with other insects keeping their numbers in check. It is only when they hit peak numbers that they become a real issue in the garden.

Control
Natural enemy mites and insects such as ladybirds generally control numbers. Regular spraying with Eco-Oil will kill off individuals by smothering them and suffocating them. The oil residue and botanical oils will also make it a less desirable place for colonies to establish.
