Kurrajong Leaf-Tier
Kurrajong Leaf-Tier

Description: Attacking the leaves of Brachychiton (Illawarra Flame Tree) this pest feed in a group and web a number of leaves together which forms their home. Of an evening they emerge to feed on surrounding leaves before retiring back to their cosy retreat, hence their homes are the best identifying feature for this pest during the day. Affected trees appear to have brown bags suspended within the foliage, predominantly at the tips.

The pests are actually the larvae of little moths with a wingspan of approximately 25mm (1"), which are pale orange with irregular black banding.

Control: Remove as they appear as they are readily identifiable and easy to control by hand. Simply prune off affected leaves and destroy.
