Small lumps, variable in size, shape and colour, attach to leaves and stems of plants including lillipilly and citrus. They suck sap and excrete honeydew, on which a black fungus called sooty mould develops.
Control: Spraying regularly with Pestoil or Eco-Oil will reduce the incidence of this pest, but once they have matured will have limited effect. Spray with Confidor or Maxguard which are systemic insecticides meaning as the scales suck on the plant, they will consume the insecticide. The black sooty mould will disappear in time.
