Rose Budworm

ROSE BUDWORM

Appearance:
The appearance of chewed holes in the side of your rose buds can easily go overlooked. Attacked buds fail to develop and generally brown-off and die. The caterpillars are not generally seen until the damage is done.

The eggs of these caterpillars are laid by moths of about 40mm in length during the evening.
Attacking the buds of various species these little caterpillars quickly damage new growth and are a dreaded find for rose growers. Juvenile caterpillars can also damage foliage leaving a paned effect on the leaves.

Control: Spray with Rose Shield which will control other insects as well as fungal problems or for an organic solution use Success. Prune off any damaged buds.
