Look for the rust coloured pustules on the reverse of the leaf. Pick or prune off the elaves and bin them (do not put in compost) as the spores will spread and reinfect the plant next year. As frangipanis drop their leaves, rake them up and put them in the bin.
Prevention: Keep plants healthy with regular applications of seaweed solution. Spraying a mix of fish and seaweed (EcoFish) also helps reduce fungal and insect attack.
Beans and capsicum are very susceptible to rust, as are geraniums, frangipani and some vegetables.
Chemical control: Geraniums can be sprayed with Baycor if necessary.
