Fan Flower (Scaevola)
This lovely Aussie groundcover has been hybridised with many forms with blue fan-shaped flowers in spring and summer.
This spreading perennial makes a fine carpet and can develop a suckering habit, which allows it to spread further. The spreading stems cover the ground, not more than 45cm high. A profusion of blue fan shaped flowers gives this plant its common name. Its long flowering season from spring right through to autumn, makes it a popular garden groundcover.

Native to the sandy coast and near woodlands, it tolerates dry conditions once established, is frost and salt tolerant, making this a hardy and free flowering groundcover.

In the ground, scaevola needs good drainage, so plant it on top of a mound in full baking sunshine. All of them have one bad habit as summer draws to a close, when they can die very quickly. So take cuttings now! Scaevolas make fabulous hanging basket plants.

Deep watering during growing season will be beneficial. Once established will tolerate dry conditions and is cold hardy.
Height: 30cm high and spreads up to 1 metre. Feed with native plant food. Prune after flowering.

Look for:
'Summertime Blues' forms a low compact spreading mound.
Other hybrids include 'Purple Fanfare','New Blue' (deeper blue), 'Purple Cascade', 'Fandancer' and 'Blue Fandango'.

Now in a pure white flowering form.
