This is one of the world's most spectacular flowering trees, and we are lucky to have the perfect climate to grow it to perfection. It is indigenous to the warm wet coastal slopes of eastern Australia. Common Name: Illawarra Flame Tree or Flame Kurrajong (Brachychiton acerifolius). Others in the same genus include the bottle tree and the kurrajong.
Description: A large flowering tree reaching around 12m in cultivation, it can reach 20m in rainforests. It flowers in summer, coinciding with the Jacaranda and the Silky Oak. Profuse sprays of scarlet flowers are borne on a leafless or partly leafless crown.
Flowering can be erratic, don't rely on it flowering every year
Brings in the nectar feeding birds and the seed eaters later with the big showy nuts
