Common name: Native Frangipani Botanical name: Hymenosporum flavum
Description: A native evergreen tree with deep glossy green leaves which provides a foil for fragrant, golden yellow flowers in spring. Size: Height 8m, width 5m. Special comments: A tree with horizontal branches and a light canopy, birds love the flowers, which are followed by woody fruit capsules. This lovely 8m high tree bears masses of sweetly scented flowers in spring. Flowers come out cream and change to yellow and orange. This tree comes from the rainforests of NSW and Qld. Lush deep evergreen leaves and decorative seed pods grace the tree. They need regular watering during their first 3 years. In warm areas they have an open canopy while in cooler areas they will grow a more dense canopy.
Great for the fragrant garden and a great light privacy tree to screen out a two storey neighbour. Plant somewhere you can appreciate the flowers each spring. Frost tolerant.
