Swamp lily (Crinum pedunculatum)
Description
Large upright robust plant that makes a huge impact in your garden with large clumps of evergreen leaves, each one 1m long and 10cm wide at the base. Leaves are thick and strong with good architectural qualities. Stout flowering stems are produced in spring and summer that can grow to 1m tall each bearing a long succession of narrow-petalled white flowers, each with showy stamens. Greenish-white fruit, 5cms diameter, follows flowers. A mature clump will measure 2.4m in width!

Care
This tough hardy plant prefers moisture so a damp boggy spot is perfect, with full sunshine or part shade.

Uses
Excellent feature plant for a damp spot. Looks good alongside a garden pond or water feature. A good border plant. Fabulous in a large container.

Watch out for snails and slugs which will devour it very quickly and the Crinum caterpillar  - a smooth black, white and yellow striped caterpillar that can devastates leaves.
