Gardens in focus Photography Competition

Hurry, there’s no time to waste! Entries close 10 December 2011.

Entries for the second annual Gardens in Focus photography competition, presented by Friends of the Botanic Gardens, close on 10 December 2011. Judges have been impressed with the high standard and quality of entries that have been sent in to date.

With $10 000 in cash prizes up for grabs and a place for the winning photograph in the acclaimed International Garden Photographer of the Year exhibition in the UK, its time for photographers, both professional and amateur, to pick up their cameras and start exploring the wonders of a botanic garden.

Photographs will be judged in five categories including:

  1. Plant Portraiture
  2. Garden Views
  3. Garden Creatures
  4. Youth competition (open to photographers under 21 years) and
  5. International Botanic Gardens

So whether the focus is on fascinating flowers, sweeping vistas, garden creatures or the uniqueness of a particular garden, the Gardens in Focus photography competition is an opportunity to take a fresh look at botanic gardens.  There’s even a special category for young photographers to showcase their skills.

The inaugural Gardens in Focus competition, exhibited at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney in April of this year, saw entries from as far afield as Russia, England and the USA. With 2000 high quality photographs submitted, entries showcased almost 70 botanic gardens from around Australia.  In a welcome addition, the 2011 Gardens in Focus competition includes a new category highlighting the beauty and diversity of international botanic gardens.

A selection of winning and commended entries from the Gardens In Focus competition will be exhibited at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney in autumn 2012.
