The Sydney City Farm public picnic in Sydney Park The Sydney City Farm not-for-profit group congratulates City of Sydney Council on moving forward with the initiative to create a City Farm across two sites in Sydney: Sydney Park and the PowerHouse Museum. The adoption of a proposal by the Environment & Heritage Committee, which includes setting up an Advisory Committee with community representation and employing a project officer, looks set to pass at the next full meeting of Council on Mon November 7.
“City of Sydney Council continues to demonstrate visionary leadership by making the creation a City Farm a showcase of their Sustainable Sydney 2030 goals. We’re excited by the plan to spread the farm across two busy sites where large numbers of people will be able to enjoy the city farm experience,” said Sydney City Farm President, Andrew Jackson. "The beauty of this idea is its universal appeal. Everyone we speak to loves the idea of a city farm in Sydney, whether it's the celebration of growing healthy food and an active lively community, or the positive environmental message, that we can all make a difference." The Sydney City Farm community group has more than 1500 active supporters eager to have hands on involvement in an urban farm and environmental education centre. “We look forward to working together with Council and the Power House Museum to move through the planning phase and get the farm sites developed as soon as possible,” said Andrew Jackson. The Sydney City Farm organisation will celebrate this important milestone with a public picnic in Sydney Park on Sunday November 6, with live music, vegie sculptures and fun activities for young and old.
