A member sent in t his fruit that had popped up in her garden on a plant that resembled a cucumber vine. We researched it and found it to be Cucumis metuliferus (also called African horned cucumber or melon, jelly melon, hedged gourd, English tomato, melano, or kiwano) native to Africa This very unusual fruit is very spiny with "horns." The green-yellow skin turns a bright deep orange when ready to harvest and the pulp resembles lime-green Jelly. The fruit has a sour-sweet, banana-lime-tropical fruit taste and is good juiced. .
