Compost
Our three-bin compost system, as you can see, is pretty rough and ready, but it does wonders making rich delicious compost from fallen leaves, lawn clippings, all the kitchen scraps and mulched prunings. This is Sandra's domain and she deserves the title 'Queen of Compost' as she lovingly tends, turns and shreds, making sure there is layer after layer of decompostable materials. She aerates it, shovels it out, upturns it and places it back, waiting patiently for it to magically turn into compost. This usually takes 2-3 months and then she carts it around the the garden beds that need it most and digs it into the soil. The beds in the vegie patch get this treatment at the end of every season as a warm welcome to new seedlings. This is an essential part of the garden system and returns, recycles and reuses alot of waste which would ordinarily go into landfill. We have been able to cut our greenwaste to zero and all our plants thank Sandra for such wonderful soil to grow in.
