Kitchen staple vegies

Vegetables for continuous harvest

There is nothing like having a continuous harvest of tasty vegetables in the garden to eat. But sometimes its either a feast or a famine. Here is a simple way to always have one of the staples ready to cook. Some vegetables grow best in winter and some best in summer but these beauties can be grown anytime!

We recommend planting some every month for continual harvest:

Carrots - all varieties good

Beetroots - slow to grow through winter but still can be done with regular feeding

Spring Onion - great all year round and a good alternative to onions when unavailable

Leek - slower through summer but can be done

Kohlrabi - a great tasting round stem that tastes cross between radish and turnip - wonderful eaten raw with drizzle of lemon

Snowpeas - pretty much grow all year in most regions

Spinach/Silverbeet - especially the Rainbow variety

Radish - try ther mixed heirloom seed range

Rocket - Wild and Salad rocket grow throughout the year

Lettuce - especially cut and come agains types

Wong Bok - a quick crop to harvest anytime of the year

Spouting broccoli - will continue to develop heads throughout the year, smaller in summer but still the best vegie for you!

Pak Choi - a quick crop to harvest anytime of the year

Mini Cannonball Cabbage - keep growing throughout summer for coleslaw

Savoy Cabbage - good in semi shade throughout summer
