There have been many calls to the garden clinic helpline lately, about Passion fruit not flowering or fruit not ripening. Here at the Garden Clinic, we are able to tell you, your not alone. Ours are only just coming into flower now, and they are loaded!
We are growing two different varieties, Panama Red and Panama Gold.
The Panama Red have developed a few fruit in the middle of summer, these are quite large and are only just starting to colour up now. More flowers are staring to come on now. This variety crops from autumn through to spring.
The Panama Gold has not produced any fruit yet, but is absolutely loaded with flowers! This variety crops all through winter, so we are looking forward to a good crop this year.
If you are growing either of these varieties, and have been disappointed that you did not get a crop over summer, don't despair. You may still get a crop yet.
We are lucky enough to have a native beehive right by the Passion fruit vines, so pollination should not be a problem. If there is a shortage of bees in your area, pollinate by hand using a small paintbrush to ensure a good yield.
