Spring Onions Sping Onions are so easy to grow and have countless uses, anyone with a vegie patch would be smart to make room for a few rows. They can be grown all year round and are perfect for salads, stirfries, asian dishes and soups. Care Spring Onions prefer a sunny site with rich, well drained soil and a pH of around 6.5. Seeds can be sown directly into garden beds through spring and summer, but winter crops are more successful when germinated in seedling trays. Keep the growing beds weed free, Onions hate weeds. Mulching with sugar cane mulch is very handy for reducing weeds. Harvesting Spring onions can start being harvested when they are about 15cm long onwards. If left in the ground they will begin to form a bulb, these are also useful in cooking. Be sure to harvest any winter grown Spring Onions before spring as they may start to flower.
