What's inside?

Gardeners are like farmers, one eye always on the horizon watching the weather. This year summer arrived with a vengeance in many parts of the country. Stinking hot and humid along the eastern seaboard, windy down south and wet out west. But that’s what makes gardeners the resilient souls that we are! With that in mind we have plenty of tips and tricks to keep your garden beautiful and productive through summer. And mindful that it’s holiday season we’ve got some great reading for you too. Enjoy a preview of two books that would make great gifts this Christmas – Penny Olsen’s ‘Collecting Ladies’, about the women botanists who collected plants for Ferdinand Von Mueller at the Melbourne Botanic Gardens; and Myles Baldwin’s ‘Australian Coastal Gardens’, which offers plenty of inspiration and real insight into Myles’ ideas about gardens. You can check out some more of Myles’ work in our feature on the highlights of the Australian Garden Show Sydney. Everyone who visits Barcelona loves it; our Ross travellers certainly always enjoy the experience.

Our son, Kent, and his wife Katharina, have just returned from a holiday in Spain and they too fell in love with the colour, garden history, food and architecture. Sandra
is returning with a group again in 2014 and in this issue we give you a peek at just one of the thrills of Barcelona.

As one year ends and another rolls into view, please accept our best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Ross Family and the entire GCC Team.
