Anemone hupehensis Sometimes referred to as the 'Wind flower' or 'Wind Poppy' this species of Anemones are putting on a brilliant show this Autumn. The Anemones are in the same family as Ranunculus and also grow from rhizomes. Flowers are usually shades of white and pink but some hybrids have much deeper, striking colours such as the purple variety pictured. Plants spread into a dense clump with poppy like flowers perched upon stems up to 1m in height.
Care Plant into a well drained, semi shade, sheltered position leaving a gap of 1 to 2 feet between each plant. They usually won't put on a lot of growth in their fist year because they do not like being disturbed. Apply a complete fertilser 2 or 3 times per year and cut out blooms at ground level as they fade. After flowering has finished the whole plant can be taken down to ground level.
Uses Excellent to provide colour in areas which don't receive a lot of sun, perfect for border plantings and rockeries. Long stems make them ideal as a cut flower.
