The Plectranthus family of plants are putting on a spectacular show at present, in particular Plectranthus 'Cape Angels', with purple flower spikes of salvia-like flowers which comes from Madagascar, India and the Indonesian archipelago down to Australia and some Pacific islands. Blossoms are of either pink, dark pink, white or purple. These shrubs grow vigorously and are free flowering and very showy. They will do best in partly shaded or very shady areas. Use
They will give you months of colour from late summer until winter. Great for tubs, shady gardens & cottage gardens.
Care
Prune them back hard in late winter to encourage new spring growth.
Varieties
‘Mona Lavender’ - A wonderful solution to shady areas in the garden as well as making an ideal container or basket specimen for sheltered patios or entertainment areas. Forms a neat low shrub with an upright, erect habit. Has ornamental foliage of green leaves with strong purple coloured undersides. Height 80cm, spread 60cm. Plant aongside the silver cascading foliage of Dichondra 'Silver Falls' gives a fabulous combination. Another good plant for this combo is the varigated lime Liriope, with purple spires that flowers at the same time (pictured above).
