Chincherinchee (Ornithogalum) Often referred to as 'Star of Bethlehem' or 'Chincherinchee', Ornithogulm thyrsoides captivate the hearts of all who encounter them.A bulb native to Africa, these little wonders are the perfect addition to any flowering garden and they are looking fantastic this time of year.Their delicate looking blooms are surprisingly tough and last a long time, making them perfect for the cut flower garden.Most varieties are white, but more vibrant colors such as Oranges and Yellows are becoming more readily available.
Care: Suitable in a pot or the garden, grow Ornithogalum in Full Sun/Part Shade with well drained soil. When shoots start to appear in Autumn, be sure to provide sufficient water and a good Liquid feed. Flowers emerge in early spring and will last until summer, after flowering the plant will die back ground level. Ornithogalum are very easy to grow, they naturalize in the ground, meaning there is no need to lift the bulbs over summer.
Use in the Garden: Perfect for a pot on the patio of courtyard, even better as a border plant or in a rockery. The taller stemmed varieties such as 'Chesapeake Starlight' make excellent cut flowers.
