The Chorisia or 'Silk floss tree' is not a common sight in gardens around Australia, however to see one in full bloom is definitely something special. Their rarity would have a lot to do with the fact that they arent easily propagated. The Chorisia can not be grown from cutting, it must be grown from seed. This South American native grows to around 15m in height, the bark is covered with large conical studs, it also produces buttress roots. Flowers which appear in Autumn have five petals and come in a range of colours, pink, red, salmon, white and yellow. Another trait of the Chorisia which makes it unique is that no two plants will produce the same flowers. Even plants from the same batch of seed will not produce identicle flowers.
