Description: A showy evergreen shrub with sprays of pretty bell-shaped blooms. Has dense foliage of dark glossy green which makes a perfect foil for bundles of creamy white blooms each tipped with a delicate pink rim, or pure white varieties such as 'Temple Bells'. Leaves often have a burnished red colour when new.
Size: Shrub around 1.5m tall, various heights available.
Care: Suited to deep fertile moist soils in semi-shade. For best results enrich soil with organic compost and manure in a thick mulch each Spring. Water by deep soaking. Tip prune to improve bushiness.
Companions: Good planted with azaleas, kalmias and rhododendron which enjoy similar conditions in a shady garden bed or border. Use foliage and flowers in arrangements.
Varieties 'Shojo' - Pink Pieris 'Christmas Cheer' 'Dorothy Wykoff' 'Forest Flame', 'Flamingo' 'Temple Bells' (white - pictured).
