'Lemon falls' is a beautiful yellow flowering variety of the Central American Russelia, commonly known as 'Coral Plant' or 'Firecracker Plant'. During winter they are easily overlooked thanks to the inconspicuous, tangled, leafless stems. In late spring however, when Russelia explodes into flower, no one would dare to question their place in the garden. 'Lemon Falls' is adored for its pendulous clusters of yellow tubular flowers, which start in spring and last right through summer. With a height and width of 1m x 1m it's easy to find space for a specimen in the garden.
Care Like most warm climate plants Russelia prefers a sunny warm position with rich, free draining soil. 'Lemon Falls' is a fast grower and produces long arching stems. Pruning after flowering is important to ensure repeat flowering and to keep them looking tidy, some of the older stems can be taken right back to the base. A general purpose slow release fertiliser should be applied 2-3 times a year (e.g Sudden Impact, Acticote) and a liquid fertiliser can be applied once every 1-2 months over spring, summer and autumn.
Uses Great when cascading over a bank or a wall, their pendulous habit also makes 'Lemon Falls' ideal for hanging baskets and large pots.
