The Agastache Genus includes around 20 species of flowering perennials originating from China, Japan and North America. They are shrubby in habit and vary in heights from 30cm to 1.8m. Flowers are tubular in shape and grow in upright spikes which sit up above the lance shaped leaves. These flowers come in a range of colours including white, pink, mauve and purple, many varieties produce a lovely fragrance.
Care Agastache prefer to grow in a full sun position with rich, well drained soil. They are quite hardy and most species will tolerate frosts. Prune off spent flower heads to keep the plant looking tidy and to encourage additional blooms. Apply a liquid fertiliser such as Thrive, Harvest, Maxicrop or Better Bloom throughout the flowering period for the best results.
The Summer Crush range from Sprint Horticulture feature some beautiful varieties, the leaves and flowers are highly fragrant with a sweet citrus aroma, look out for them in a nursery near you.
