You can have some great fun planting out old items from around the house and yard with flowers. Spray paint some old Work Boots or Gumboots and you have an unusual pot to grow some of your favourite annuals in. Old steel watering cans and wheelbarrows are excellent to use, with a coat of paint, some potting mix and a few plants, you can give them a second life.
How to make Tania's wheelbarrow full of colour
1. Paint an old wheelbarrow in the colour of your choice and drill a few holes for drainage.
2. Fill the wheelbarrow with a good quality potting mix, we like to use Amgrow - Black Label. Mix some Seamungus in with the potting mix also, this will help the roots develop and provide some gentle nutrients to get you plants of to the best start.
3. Select some potted colour to fill your new masterpiece and get planting, we have used Petunias, Lobelia, Marigold and Laurentia.
4. Apply some mulch and water in well with a seaweed solution for best results.
5. After a few weeks you can feed with a slow release fertiliser such as Garden Gold, Sudden Impact for Roses or Acticote. Apply a liquid fertiliser such as Thrive, Harvest, Multicrop or Powerfeed every few weeks to ensure continuous flowering.
