Daphne odorata If you have had trouble growing Daphne in the past, maybe its time to try one in a pot. Pots tend to have better drainage than garden situations and can be the difference between failure and succes. The Daphne is a neat, compact flowering shrub which enjoys the cooler climates of southern Australia. From mid winter to late spring they produce showy, fragrant flower heads with the most amazing perfume. Flowers come in various shades of colour including white, cream, yellow and pink. Care Excellent drainage is the most important factor when growing Daphne, they are very prone to root diseases. Spray annualy and after periods of heavy rain with Anti-Rot. If you can not achieve excellent drainage in the garden it is better that you grow Daphne in a pot. Daphnes like morning sun, and protection from the afternoon sun. The exception to this rule is the new cultivar "Eternal Fragrance" which can be grown in full sun. Do not over water, let them dry out between waterings. After flowering, prune of spent flower heads and feed with general purpose slow release fertiliser.
