The Australian eqivalent to the cherry blossom of Japan, this leptospermum is the result of a cross between L. flavescens 'Cardwell' and L. scoparium 'Nana'. This shrub is astonishing in full flower with hardly a leaf showing, just masses of bright pink flowers in late winter.
Habit:
Compact and tidy growth habit; 1.5m tall and spreads 1m. Makes a good low hedge.
Growing Conditions:
Plant into well drained soil in full sunshine. Avoid heavy clay which holds too much water. A raised garden bed is ideal for improved drainage. Dig a hole at least 3 times as wide as the size of the container. Keep the plant just moist until established. Feed with a controlled release fertiliser for native plants eg Garden Gold for Natives.
Pruning:
Pruning after flowering is necessary to maintain a good healthy bush. Prune back about a third of the plant growth from the previous season. In its early stages, a shortening of the larger branches is all that is needed.
