October - November garden jobs
* Rain: Make best use of this wonderful rain and feed your garden and your lawn. Water now with seaweed and the rain will take it down to the roots where its needed.

* Dead head finished rose flowers to make way for new flushes. Deep irrigate once a week with liquid manure or seaweed solution. Spray with Pestoil once a fortnight to discourage pests and disease. Feed each rose each month with a handful of pelletised manure such as Sudden Impact or Organic Life.

* Prune vigorous shoots of wisteria back to the main stem.

* Give
gardenias Garden Gold every 3 months, Seaweed solution every week and a handful of Organic Life pellets every month.

* Water the plant and not the garden. New plants need careful attention to watering. Established plants should be deep-watered once a fortnight. This will encourage the roots to grow down deep looking for the moisture, and thus they will not be so susceptible to drying out.

* Mulching is essential at this time of year. A thick layer of any organic material over your garden beds will conserve moisture, stops the weeds and keep plant roots cooler. Choose from Lucerne (most nutritious), sugar cane, tea-tree, pelletised paper. Amgrow's Water wise bagged mulch is good looking and saves soil moisture.

* Pinch prune terminal tip out of dahlias to encourage bushy lateral growth and more flowers.
