* Enjoy the birds, they'll be after the nectar in flowering gum trees, Angophoras (Sydney red gum) and kangaroo paw. Birds will also enjoy the flowes of tree waratah, ivory curl tree, grevillea and lemon myrtle, as they start to come into flower for the summer.
* Mulch everywhere this week if you haven't done so already: lightly scratch the soil surface, apply a wetting agent (like Eco-hydrate or Wettasoil) then top with 75-100 mm of mulch.
* Pebbles are an effective mulch for pots, a clean and cool alternative to straw or sugarcane.
* Stake the taller-growing tomatoes, they should be coming along nicely now - check is you have an virus and remove any yellowing leaves. Keep feeding with liquid feed such as 'Harvest' and remember that deep-watering tomatoes and summer vegetables like capsicum and eggplant will result in better harvest and crops!
* Keep on liquid feeding those delicious leafy summer herbs and greens. My rocket, lettuce, basil and dill are being using in the kitchen daily - try to stop them going to seed by picking off the flowers when they come..
* There's still plenty of time to plant carrot, celery, capsicum, cucumber, radish, sweet corn, zucchini, basil, Asian greens, repeat-harvest salad greens and tomatoes. We suggest plant smaller amounts (one punnet at a time) regularly for a prolonged, summer-long harvest.
* Water indoor plants every third day.
* Water potted outdoor plants every second day. If its a real scorcher water every day.
