Forget the boring old Buxus and Murraya, if you want a hedge with some colour as well as attractive dark green foliage, you can't go past Camellia sasanqua. There are some fantastic miniature varieties available, even some ground cover types. Lets take a look at a few we have growing at home.
Classique A ground cover or low spreading shrub, this variety from Coachwood Nursery is even available as a grafted standard. Flowers are 2 tone pink with a yellow centre, they appear on the plant from late summer to winter. The new foliage has an attractive bronze tinge, 'Classique' makes an excellent border plant, ground cover or potted specimen.
Paradise Sandra Named after our very own Sandra Ross! This beautiful long flowering variety features rich pink semi-double flowers on dark green foliage. Its fast growing and dense, making an excellent hedge or screen. Grows to 2m in height.
Little Liane This variety is known for its small leaves and compact habit, it grows to around 1m in height. Little Liane produces masses of small white flowers with faint pink margins.
Paradise Petite A dense, compact Camellia less than 1m in height, perfect for topiary and small hedges. Small soft pink flowers cover the dark glossy foliage in late Autumn.
