Macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia)
The macadamia hails from Queensland and northern NSW but for a long time it was better known in Hawaii than in its homeland. Indeed Hawaii led the world in macadamia production for most of the 20th century, though Australia is now the world’s largest producer of macadamia nuts. This member of the Proteaceae family grows to 20m and makes a beautiful, evergreen garden specimen. The white or pink flowers appear in racemes from August to December, and make way for a tasty nut harvest from December to March.
