How sweet it is

QUESTION

At the end of every sweet pea season, my vines succumb to this white powder that eventually kills the plants. I’m afraid to spray them because they’re also covered in ladybirds. Is there a safe control?

ANSWER

The problem is powdery mildew, a fungal disease that tends to appear as the weather cools, the showers arrive and humidity stays high. Older fungicides were effective but many were carcinogenic – not just risky for you but also harmful to beneficial insects like ladybirds. Thankfully, OCP’s eco-fungicide changed that. It’s fast-acting, highly effective and safe for both you and the helpful insects in your garden. I recommend adding a dash of ecooil to the mix – it helps the solution stick to the leaves, improving its coverage and effectiveness.
