Q: We live near the Hastings River and the lower property was flooded in 2021. Our Kentia palms are all slowly dying. What can we do to save them?
Phillipa M., Port Macquarie, NSW
A: Palms have been dying along the Eastern Seaboard for the last 20-30 years, mainly from root diseases like Fusarium and Phytophthora.
I suggest you feed your palms every 6–8 months with Sudden Impact for Lawns which contains Popul8, an advanced soil biological formula. Be careful not to damage the base of your palms with a lawn mower or line trimmer. These wounds are entry points for disease. Lightly cultivate the soil around the base of your palms and mulch. Treat palms every six months with Popul8 to increase population of beneficial bacteria and fungi.
