Q&A Green with envy

QUESTION:

I received a bouquet that included what looked like a green dahlia or zinnia. Can you identify it?

ANSWER:

While it resembles a dahlia, it’s actually Zinnia ‘Envy’, a striking green variety of the annual zinnia. Florists love it for the unique colour contrast it adds to bouquets. Home gardeners can grow it from seed sown between August and January, with seedlings planted from late spring to mid-summer. Being an annual, it needs to be replanted each year. Most modern seed suppliers include Z. ‘Envy’ in their range.
