Banksia spinulosa ‘Birthday Candles’
This prostrate banksia hugs the ground to a height of about 50cm. It bears pale yellow flower heads with lilac styles from late summer to winter. These
are held above the foliage and provide much-needed food for birds when there is little else in flower. Buy ‘Birthday Candles’ as small plants – tube
stock grow into better specimens - and plant them in full sun to part shade. ‘Birthday Candles’ needs excellent drainage, and once established, requires
very little water. Be sure to keep phosphorus well away; use a fertiliser formulated or natives.
We like it with: ‘Birthday Candles’ looks great in a garden bed with Acacia ‘Limelight’, or with the a meadow of everlasting daisies, which
accentuates flower.
