Potted: Pohutukawa

This iconic Kiwi native is an excellent choice for pots on high, windy balconies. Foliage is dull green with dense white hairs on the reverse and the flowers are bright orange-red explosions of colour at Christmas. Pohutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa ‘Vibrance’) is also a great hedge alternative to lilly pilly. It will withstand dry soil, cold, salt air and strong wind and thrives on regular pruning. It prefers full sun, well-drained soil and no more than the occasional light frost.
