Description
This cheery flowering tree is the first blossom to bloom each year, reputed to always begin flowering on July 24. The rosy-red flowers hang in small clusters
like bells on the bare stems and flowering lasts until mid-August if the tree is sheltered from strong winds. The deciduous foliage colours well in
autumn.

Cultivation
Like all cherries, this one will happily grow in average soil with reasonably good drainage, although it would prefer deep fertile soil. Make sure the
soil is moist, particularly during flowering, and in periods of growth. It will cope with moderate frost and needs little pruning, except to remove
unproductive wood.
Comments
The Taiwan cherry is a good choice if you are looking for a reliable and elegant feature tree in a mild or temperate climate, but it’s fruit is purely
ornamental.
