Take an armchair amble through Scandinavia and discover a culture steeped in nature, contentment, and the cosy, feel-good spirit of ‘hygge'.
Our adventure begins in Copenhagen, checking in at The Marriott on the waterfront, next door to the magical Tivoli Gardens. As evening falls, you can stroll through this historic pleasure garden, alive with the scent of Danish treats, the glow of lights, the thrill of amusement rides and the sparkle of fireworks – an enchanting atmosphere that inspired Hans Christian Andersen and Walt Disney alike. Next, we venture to North Zealand to Frederiksborg Castle at Hillerød, a Renaissance masterpiece built by Christian IV in 1600, surrounded by intricate Baroque gardens. Nearby, Fredensborg Palace, summer residence of King Frederik and Queen Mary, offers a guided tour through elegant interiors and restored gardens – a serene glimpse into royal life while the Royals are away. Crossing the Øresund to Gothenburg, Sweden, we pause at Sofiero, the former royal summer palace, with its lush English gardens providing the perfect back dropfor a leisurely lunch. Gothenburg itself, a west-coast port founded in 1621, reveals its charm on a canal cruise, winding under bridges to the harbour, historic ship yards and maritime museum.

Staying at the historic Hotel Adlon in Vasagatan, we explore the city’s vibrant streets and take a day trip to Uppsala, where Carl Linnaeus’s restored 1750 gardens and laboratory show the birth place of his revolutionary system of plant naming. Our journey ends in Helsinki, reached by overnight ferry through Stockholm’s sunlit archipelago. The city’s Merisatama harbour, sandy beaches, summer terraces and striking architecture radiate a modern, elegant charm. A visit to the UNESCO-listed Sea Fortress Suomenlinna captures a perfect blend of history, style and Scandinavian cosiness.
